Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Before Each Use: Check oil level, inspect blade for damage, clear deck of debris.
  2. Every 25 Hours: Sharpen or replace blade. Check air filter, clean or replace if dirty.
  3. Every 50 Hours: Change engine oil (or annually). Check spark plug.
  4. Every 100 Hours/Season End: Replace air filter, spark plug. Clean under deck thoroughly. Check drive belt tension.
  5. Storage: Run engine dry of fuel or add fuel stabilizer. Remove battery for electric start models.

Tip: Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.

Cutting & Discharge Options

Supports three modes: Mulching, Bagging, Side Discharge.

  1. Mulching: Install MulchPlug fully into the discharge chute. Cuts clippings finely and returns them to lawn.
  2. Bagging: Attach grass bagger to rear hooks. Ensure bag is empty before it reaches "Full" indicator.
  3. Side Discharge: Remove both MulchPlug and bagger. Clippings discharge from side chute (use optional side discharge deflector).
  4. Height Adjustment: Use single lever to raise or lower deck. Match height to grass condition (taller for dry, shorter for damp).

WARNING! Never operate without a discharge chute, MulchPlug, or bagger properly installed. Keep hands and feet away from chute.

Safety Features

Operator Presence Control: Blade and drive stop within 3 seconds if handle is released. Safety Key: Must be inserted to start engine. Blade Control Lever: Interlock prevents engine starting unless lever is engaged. Rear Bagger Safety: Engine will shut off if bagger is removed during operation (on some models).

Storage & Winterization

Prepare mower for off-season storage.

  1. Clean: Thoroughly clean underside of deck, wheels, and exterior.
  2. Fuel: Option A: Run engine until fuel tank is empty. Option B: Fill tank and add fuel stabilizer, run engine for 5 minutes.
  3. Oil: Change engine oil if due.
  4. Battery: For electric start models, remove battery and store in a cool, dry place. Charge periodically.
  5. Store: Keep in a dry, covered location. Engage height adjuster to highest setting to relieve spring tension.

CAUTION! Never store mower with fuel in tank indoors or near open flame. Gasoline is flammable.
