Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Engine won't start Empty fuel tank, old gasoline, clogged air filter Add fresh fuel, clean/replace air filter, check spark plug
Poor cutting performance Dull blade, low engine speed, wet grass Sharpen/replace blade, adjust throttle, wait for grass to dry
Uneven cutting Uneven tire pressure, bent blade, deck clogged Check tire pressure, inspect/replace blade, clean deck
Excessive vibration Unbalanced blade, loose components, bent crankshaft Balance/replace blade, tighten all bolts, check engine mount
Loss of power Dirty air filter, old fuel, clogged fuel line Clean air filter, drain old fuel, check fuel system
Self-propel not working Drive cable adjustment, worn drive belt, debris in drive Adjust drive cable, replace belt, clean drive system

Common Issues & Solutions

  • Hard Starting: Use fresh gasoline (less than 30 days old), ensure choke is properly set
  • Engine Stalls: Check fuel cap vent, clean carburetor, adjust idle speed
  • Poor Mulching: Ensure mulch plug is installed, mow when grass is dry, don't cut more than 1/3 of grass height
  • Won't Self-Propel: Check drive engagement lever, inspect drive belt, clean drive wheels
  • Oil Leaks: Check drain plug, inspect gaskets, ensure proper oil level
  • Excessive Noise: Check for loose parts, inspect blade balance, examine engine mounts
